People

We're a small, family company of two: Rebekah Palmer and Bernard Steeds.

We're both refugees from journalism, where we held senior 'gatekeeper' positions. We're partners, we're parents, and we're also both fiction writers.

When you work with us, you'll get creativity, professionalism, experience, ability to adapt our 'voice' to your audience, and understanding of government processes.

Rebekah Palmer is a novelist, children's writer, screenwriter, mum, and professional writer/editor.

Her work for West Egg Ltd includes writing media releases, consultation documents, web content, sustainability reports and speeches. She has also written or contributed to several Thomson Brooker plain English legal guides.

Rebekah's latest book is Champ the Chopper, about a little, brave rescue helicopter. The next instalment in Champ's adventures will be published in 2008, as will another children's picture book, Little Blue Penguins. Rebekah has also written two novels for adults.

Before she founded West Egg Ltd in 2000, Rebekah worked as a journalist. Her last job in journalism was as duty editor for at the New Zealand Press Association. One of the highlights of her journalism career was covering the handover of Hong Kong from the UK to China in 1987.

Rebekah has a bachelor of arts in English literature, a postgraduate diploma in journalism, and a master of arts (with distinction) in scriptwriting.

Bernard Steeds is a fiction writer, dad, and communications contractor.

He writes and advises on websites, annual plans and reports, research reports, consultation documents, media releases, and other content. A lot of his work in the last couple of years has focused on sustainability, trade/international relations, and justice issues. During 2008-09, he was Communications Manager for the Independent Police Conduct Authority.

Bernard's first book was a collection of short stories, Water. He is working on a number of fiction projects.

Bernard worked as a journalist for more than a decade, most of that in the Parliamentary press gallery. He has been editor of Consumer magazine, acting political editor of the Evening Post (before its closure in 2001), and duty editor at the New Zealand Press Association.

Bernard has a bachelor of arts in history and a postgraduate diploma in journalism. He completed a course in web design in 2007.
