Principle 6: it's all about you.

If you're trying to communicate, it's the people you're trying to communicate with who matter. Anything you write should be based around meeting their needs. Instead of asking only: what do I want to say? ask who is this for? why should they care? what questions will they have?

The answers will influence your choices about what information to include, what type of language to use, and how to structure your document or website.

Think of it as being courteous. If you meet someone, do you talk about yourself, or ask about them?
