Wellington City Council annual reports

We've been involved in the Council's annual reports for six years.

Our role includes advice on report content and structure, writing key sections of the report, editing other sections to ensure consistency and clarity, and providing input into team decisions about the report's themes and presentation.

Project management is carried out in-house, along with all performance measurement and accounting roles.

While we've been involved, the reports have won the following NZ Institute of Chartered Accountants' annual report awards:

  • 2008 - winner, supreme award and local government category, and commendation for governance reporting by a Crown or local authority
  • 2007 - winner, supreme award and local government category, and commendation for best governance reporting by a Crown or local authority
  • 2006 - winner, supreme award and local government category
  • 2005 - finalist, local government category
  • 2004 - winner, local government category.

Judges commented on the 2007 report:

The winning annual report was an especially impressive accountability and communication document. It covered comprehensively all aspects the panel expected to see in an annual report and did so with verve and style. It has taken local authority annual reporting to a new benchmark.

The judges also noted that the standard was higher than ever before.

The 2006 report was adjudged to be 'head and shoulders' above the competition. According to that year's judges:

Wellington City Council stood out...

[Its] report is clearly written with the target audience in mind [and] maintains an attractive format but with substantial content...

The organisation has maintained its integrity by being transparent on issues it has faced or will face in the future. The judges felt that its governance statement took the standard to another level as it addressed real governance issues.
