Policy & report writing

We have extensive experience at facilitating and writing:

  • commission of inquiry reports

  • public consultation documents

  • strategies and policies

  • annual reports and plans

  • plain English guides to law or policy.

We can help you to ensure your report is clear, engaging, and trustworthy.

We bring a powerful combination of storytelling expertise, editorial judgment, and awareness of how your report might play out in political, media, and public spheres.

We have supported agencies to produce reports on politically and legally sensitive subjects ranging from Treaty of Waitangi claims to reports from investigations and commissions of inquiry, to highly contentious areas of government policy.

We have also supported agencies to:

  • create strategy documents that communicate a clear direction to the public and stakeholders

  • accurately gauge public and stakeholder views through consultation documents that succinctly identify the key issues

  • produce annual reports that accurately and transparently convey the organisation’s story for the year

  • develop internal report writing templates and processes so staff can quickly and efficiently write public reports.

Case study 1: Policy document

Our client was an advisory panel established to report on a highly sensitive area of public policy. The report had to be accurate and authoritative, reflect the views of a diverse panel, and set out realistic recommendations, while also taking account of political sensitivities and stakeholder needs. The report had a positive public and media reception and subsequently won a national design award.

Case study 2: Annual report

Our client needed an annual report that was accessible to the general public while also complying with new and complex statutory reporting requirements. We advised on report structure and content, and assisted with service descriptions, case studies, report and section introductions, key messages, and image selection. The report won the supreme category at the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants annual report awards.
